Maternity Care Advisors

Sharmila Carlo-Fischman
I am of Puerto Rican descent and have lived in South Florida most of my life. I hold a Bachelor’s degree from Florida International University and plan to further my education in the Mental Health field. What drives me in my profession is the belief that every individual has the right to be treated with respect and make informed decisions. At the Mom Care program I have the opportunity to establish a supportive relationship with my clients and aid them in their decision making process by providing them with a variety of resources.

Martine Souffrant
I was born and raised in Haiti and moved to United States with my parents.  I hold an Associates degree in Education from Staten Island College and a bachelor in Sociology from Hunter College. I am a proud single mother of two beautiful children. What I enjoy most about working as a MomCare Advisor is that I am able to help my clients by guiding them and providing them with the resources they need.

Barbara Acosta
I am of Dominican descent and just moved from New York City to South Florida 8 months ago.  I am a Psychology student and will be attending FIU in September.  I enjoy working with people and hope to be an asset to the MomCare Program.

Eunice Maria Romero
I was born in Santa Clara, Cuba. I came to Miami when I was 11 years old with my mom and grandma. I have just graduated from Miami Dade College, with an Associates in Midwifery Sciences. I enjoy being around pregnant women and babies, and listening to birth stories. I believe Birth is safe, and each and every baby is a miracle and a gift to each mom. I am proud to start working with Mom Care since it will let me use my midwifery skills and experience, to educate pregnant women, so they can have a healthier pregnancy and baby with the help of all the resources we offer.

Jennifer O. Pernas
I was born in Barranquilla, Colombia. I first came to the States when I was 11 years old; however, I constantly traveled between the two countries for years. I just graduated from Miami Dade College with an Associates degree in Psychology.  I am currently continuing my education at FIU.  I love helping at-risk families, youth, children & pregnant women. It is my goal to provide moms to be with all the necessary information & community resources they might need to ensure they have a healthy baby!
