My name is Colleen Maheswaran and I moved here seven years ago from Detroit, Michigan to attend the International School of Midwifery. I am a licensed Midwife and a Lactation Counselor. During the past years I have studied topics on pregnancy nutrition, labor and delivery, new baby care, breastfeeding, plus much more. I have attended over 400 births plus educated hundreds of women during their prenatal and postnatal time to help achieve healthy deliveries and successful breastfeeding. My goal is to help increase breastfeeding rates by offering women the support needed as soon as their babies are born. I love what I do and look forward to meeting with future families.

My name is Colleen Nelson, I am a Family Coach with HealthConnect In The Early Years. I was raised in Jamaica, where my children were born, and moved to Miami in 1996 to attend Miami Dade College. I graduated from MDC’s Midwifery Program in 2004, and I am also a Certified Childbirth Educator, Mom of seven and grandmother of three. I love to work with new and expecting Moms, and I have a special fondness in working with teen moms, having been a teen mom myself. I believe that with social and emotional support, education, and encouragement, women can make wise, informed decisions about the health and welfare of themselves and their growing families.

My name is Guadalupe Garcia and I was born in Miami. My ethnic background is Cuban and Mexican. I earned an Associate Arts Degree in Psychology from Miami Dade College and a Bachelor’s Degree from Florida International University with a minor in criminal justice. I am currently pursing my Master Degree in Mental Health at Carlos Albizu University. I have five years experience working in the social service field with various populations especially with the mental health population. I am glad to be working as a family coach with women and being able to support and educate them on prenatal and postnatal care so they could have a healthy pregnancy and baby. With my experience and skills hope to teach them how to use the resources in the community.

My name is Lilia M. Luciano, I was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico. I have a Bachelor Degree in Arts and Science and many years of experience working with Domestic Violence Programs. I moved to Miami in March 2007 were I started working with this marvelous and unique program, HealthConnect In The Early Years. I love to visit all my future moms’ participants and also enjoyed every visit with the newborns and babies.

My name is Maria Villardi. I am of Cuban descent and was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey. I moved to Florida at the age of 5 and have been living here ever since. My educational background is in psychology with a particular interest in developmental psychology and post-partum depression. My professional experience is drawn from varied populations and settings, stemming from work with adult mental health to individual and family crisis counseling. I have two children of my own, and I can appreciate the uncertainties faced by first time mothers. I feel privileged to be given the opportunity to work with pregnant mothers and look forward to assisting, educating, and advocating for first-time mothers.

My name is Meghan Griffin and I was born in Gainesville, FL but moved to Miami at age two. I have a Bachelor's degree from FIU. I'm currently pursuing my career as a registered nurse. I love working with HealthConnect and educating women on how to have a healthy pregnancy. Having healthy Babies is our main goal.

My name is Mercedes L. Cubillan. I am from Caracas, Venezuela. I came to Miami in 2003. I got my Bachelor's degree in Social Work in Caracas. I have also worked as a social worker assistant in a Nursing Home and Rehab center in the Miami area. I like to work with people and their families. Now, I enjoy working with first time mothers and their babies in HealthConnect In The Early Years Program where I provide education, information and case management to them.

My name is Myrlene Joseph. I was born in Haiti and grew up in Canada. Then I moved to Miami almost 20 years ago. I have been working in this field for about 9 years. I enjoy working with pregnant women and educating them on how to improve themselves and continue their education. I was given a chance to work with Healthy Start Coalition of Miami Dade to continue doing what I enjoy to do.

My name is Shenae Penn. I was born and raised in Miami, FL. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology with a minor in Biology from Florida Memorial University. I have over 7 years of experience working in fields such as Economic Services, Foster Care, and Child Protective Services. I consider it a pleasure to work with first time and teenage pregnant women in the community and I hope to be a great asset to women during and after pregnancy.

My name is Yaima Rivero. I was born and raised in Cuba. Six years ago I moved to the United States with my mother. I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Carlos Albizu University. Currently, I work as a Family Coach in the HealthConnect In The Early Year Program, a position that gives me the opportunity to educate and guide pregnant women to improve the quality of their pregnancy and their lives.

Hi, my name is Yariela Sequeira. I was born in Managua, Nicaragua. I have a bachelor’s in Psychology, so as you can imagine I enjoy working with individuals and families and being a witness to wonderful changes in their lives. Through HealthConnect In The Early Years I’ve learned so much about what a family can experience through pregnancy and baby care, that I am grateful to all my participants for the teachings gained, and I feel delighted that I can share such learnings with other families as well.
My name is Vanessa Ulloa .I was born in Miami Florida but I was raised in the Dominican Republic . I earned a bachelor Degree in Psychology . I am currently pursuing my Master Degree in Mental Health at Carlos Albizu University. I have four years experience working in the field of social services. It is a honor working for Health Connect in the Early Years to be able to educate , assist, and support first time mothers.
Hi! My name is Zasha Ochoa. I recently graduated from the University of Miami with a Bachelors degree in Psychology and currently working on my Masters in Public Health. I love working with children! I’ve worked with children with autism and infants prenatally exposed to cocaine. I enjoy being active in my community; helping children and families get the chance they need to live their lives to the fullest!
My name is Darlene M. Montes-Diaz. I was born in Landshtul, Germany to a Puerto Rican air force family. I am a licensed practical nurse in the state of Florida and am grateful to be able to provide this service to first time and/or teenage moms. Through the education and support we are offering these mothers hopefully we can decrease infant mortality rates and have more healthy, breastfed babies.
My name is Ayasha McLaughlin-Cooper, I’m originally from the beautiful island of Jamaica. My family and I moved to Miami, Florida when I was 13 years of age. I am truly blessed to be the mother of four exceptionally gifted and loving children. I am a certified Labor and Postpartum Doula, with over seven years of experience in this field. I really feel honored when I am able to guide pregnant women and assist them and their families throughout their pregnancy, labor and the postpartum period. Working for the Health Connect in The Early years program gives me the opportunity to assist young families with having the optimal experience.
