Early Pregnancy Care Education Certification Training - Day 3 of 3- Final Exam

Successful completion of this 2 day course and passing the final exam will provide certification in Early Pregnancy Care Education Curriculum. The Early Pregnancy Care Education Curriculum provides activities to educate and inform women about the first half of pregnancy (4-20 weeks of gestation). This curriculum is comprised of four modules: Prenatal Care, Nutrition During Pregnancy, Our Growing Bodies, and Health & Wellness. This curriculum has been approved by the Florida Department of Health for Healthy Start Program coding in Childbirth Education. This curriculum does not include information about labor, delivery, or postpartum. |

Breastfeeding Support & Education Update Meeting - Pumping & Storing Breastmilk

This is a meeting for individuals who provide lactation support and education in our community. The purpose is to coordinate local breastfeeding support and promotion, identify red flags, discuss common breastfeeding management scenarios and complete appropriate referrals. Each meeting includes an educational topic as well as time to share tips and ask questions. Certificates of attendance will be provided to CLCs as proof of continuing education hours. Note: These hours are valid towards recertification for CLCs only, not for Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs). These meetings are free. |

Infant mortality rates for African Americans are more than double that of the United States as a whole. A Black woman living in Miami-Dade County is two and a half times more likely than her white neighbor to have her baby die. Attend this seminar and learn how to improve pregnancy outcomes and reduce the infant mortality disparity rate. |

Open House Lunch and "When a Baby Dies..." Sensitivity Seminar

The Healthy Start Coalition of Miami-Dade (HSCMD) is hosting its annual Open House event for all birthing facilities in Miami-Dade County. HSCMD wants to recognize the Birth Certificate Clerks, and other relevant staff from the Health Information Management Department for their accomplishments and hard work with the Healthy Start Postnatal Screen in Miami-Dade County. In addition, this event will include a perinatal loss sensitivity seminar titled "When a Baby Dies..." This 1-hour seminar will enable staff to approach grieving families with sensitivity and respect. When A Baby Dies: Sensitivity Seminar - Professional Development Workshop

A Baby Dies… As a professional, how do you react? What do you say? Could you use skills based on grief theory to help bereaved parents, children, and grandparents? This seminar will provide the opportunity to enhance needed skills to respond to families experiencing early pregnancy loss, stillbirth, or newborn death.
About the Training This seminar provides participants with a general knowledge of the grief process and an understanding of the uniqueness of perinatal loss. They will also gain an increased awareness of families’ needs and wants after the loss of a baby.
Learn to: • Define perinatal loss • Identify common myths and misunderstandings about grief • Describe ways to assist parents in the grief process |

The Healthy Start Coalition of Miami-Dade is sponsoring a series of Pregnancy and Infant Loss Professional Support Meetings. The goal of these meetings is to provide ongoing support, educational updates and a forum for all professionals to meet and share their experiences. These meetings are open to professionals from local community organizations that serve families who have experienced a pregnancy or infant loss. Different topics will be discussed at every meeting. The facilitator is Patricia Stauber, LCSW, RN, an experienced perinatal bereavement counselor. |
