Creating Caring Children Parenting Project

The Creating Caring Children Parenting Project is designed to help parents of children 0-3 years of age develop healthy parenting and communication habits and life skills. Families receive a one 3-hour interactive training using the Creating Caring Children curriculum, a research-based curriculum developed by the Peace Education Foundation.

Families will develop skills such as:

  • violence prevention;
  • peaceful conflict resolution; and,
  • anger management within their families on a daily basis

A variety of recruiting methods are being utilized in order to reach a large numbers of Miami-Dade parents. All participating parents will receive a copy of the Creating Caring Children’s book, in either English or in Spanish. In addition to the book, each participating parent will receive a $20 certificate for attending. Food and child care services are  provided during the training sessions.

The Creating Caring Children book functions as a comprehensive reference for children 0-36 months. Among the topics addressed are:
:

  • communication
  • curiosity
  • creativity
  • exploration
  • independence
  • possessiveness
  • routines
  • separation anxiety; and,
  •  toilet training.

The book demonstrates specific scenarios for each of the above areas. It contrasts a common parental response with a more appropriate response and offers the language and the actions to carry out the more appropriate response. The point of view of the child is explored and the scenarios in the book also goes through the thought process behind the appropriate response, and offers additional tips for difficult situations.

This project is funded by The Children’s Trust and was developed in collaboration with the Peace Education Foundation, Healthy Start Coalition of Miami-Dade, Goodwill Industries and The Early Childhood Initiative Foundation.
