The Early Childhood Initiative Foundation was inspired and founded by a generous and public-spirited Miami couple -- Dr. Jane and Jerry Katcher -- who believed that the early childhood years are especially critical to the future of children and the community. The Katchers furnish the foundation’s core staff funding, and then it is the foundation’s responsibility to raise the dollars for all its projects.
Teach More/Love More is, among other things, a public awareness campaign sponsored by The Early Childhood Initiative Foundation and United Way Success By 6. The campaign not only alerts parents to the stark consequences of failing to prepare our children -- all our children -- for school and success in life, but also offers solutions for overcoming the challenges that all parents face.

The Peace Education Foundation (PEF), a non-profit educational organization, was founded in 1980. Its mission is to educate children and adults in the dynamics of conflict and to promote peacemaking skills in homes, schools and communities throughout the world. This mission is served by providing educational materials, training and innovative programming that make nonviolent conflict resolution not
merely a passing interest or fad, but a lifestyle.

PEF offers material for parents of newborns to three years, grade-level specific classroom-tested curricula for Pre-K through grade 12, and other specialized materials. While each curriculum is presented in a developmentally appropriate format, PEF curricula as a whole have a unified scope, sequence of content
and sequence of skills. Internationally, these curricula are being used in more than 20,000 schools.

The Legislature intends for the local school readiness coalitions to establish programs and policies to prepare Florida's youngest citizens for success in school.

The coalition works to make available and affordable high-quality, comprehensive health, education and nurturing services and programs for all the county's 160,000 children between birth and age 5.

Recognizing that the needs of children in Miami-Dade County far exceeds the resources and support systems available, The Children’s Trust was created by voter referendum in 2002 as a dedicated source of funding to meet those needs. The Trust, the staff and 33-member board are committed to funding programs that offer the highest possible quality services, with the goals of implementing best practices and improving the lives of children and families in our community.

A strong emphasis on active partnerships that move beyond typical mechanisms of collaboration is critical to improving services and access for children and families in Miami-Dade.  The Trust encourages creative approaches to coordinating, integrating, and funding services across and within the areas of health, safety, development and to promote increased parental and community involvement on behalf of all of our children.
